Skyline PTO Winter Before & After School Clubs

The Skyline PTO is excited to present a number of excellent Winter clubs happening both before and after school! They will delight, entertain and enrich, and importantly provide an opportunity to build community at Skyline.

Registration will be open from Thursday, Dec. 12 through Friday, Dec. 20 (or until clubs fill). Please read below for more info, and register your student online through our 6crickets page. Payments can be made online or use code CHECK to pay by cash or check.

STANDARD CLUBS: Standard clubs are provided by a member of the Skyline PTO. Discounts of 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% are available for those who need them. Discounts are funded from the Skyline PTO.

PREMIUM CLUBS: Premium clubs are provided in partnership with outside organizations. Discounts of 25% or 50% are available for those who need them. Two scholarship spots are available per club: email clubs@skylinepto.org for a scholarship. Discounts and scholarships are funded from the Skyline PTO.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON
CHESS CLUB (Grades 1-5)

When: 1/7 – 3/25  |  Tuesdays until 4:45pm  |  11 sessions (no club on 1/21)
Instructors: Jacob Rosenblum, Ashley Wong
Where: Skyline Library
Cost: $30 (Standard Club)
About: Come play the game of Kings and Queens! We’ll learn, practice, and play together. Don’t know how to play? That’s okay! We’ll all learn and improve together! We’ll also learn about chess etiquette, playing as your best self, chess clock smarts, how to read and write chess notation, chess variants such as bughouse, strategies, tactics, and watch a chess movie!

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
ANIME CLUB (Grades 3-5)
When: 1/8 – 3/26  |  Weds. until 4:45pm | 8 sessions (no club on half days!)
Instructors: Terry Nylen, Bryan Schmidt
Where: Room 22 (Mr. Schmidt’s Classroom)
Cost: $30 (Standard Club)
About: Come join Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Nylen at Anime Club where we will watch and draw anime after school on Wednesdays. Each session will be a combination of anime drawing tutorials and lots of time to draw and watch anime. Drawing materials will be provided!

THURSDAY MORNING
MORNING CHOIR (Grades 4-5)
When: 1/9 – 3/20  |  Thursdays at 8:30am | 11 sessions
Instructor: Laurie Bianco
Where: Music Room
Cost: $30 (Standard Club)
About: Skyline choir is for 4th and 5th graders who enjoy singing in a group and want to try reading unison and two-part music. On Sat., March 22 we will join together with about 200 other students from Whatcom and Skagit counties to perform as the San Juan Music Educators Association Elementary Choir. Each student who signs up for the club will receive a festival entry, t-shirt, and choral music.

WALKING/RUNNING CLUB (Grades 2-5)
When: 1/9 – 3/27  |  Thursdays at 8:30am | 12 sessions
Instructor: Leslie Chala
Where: Skyline Gym
Cost: $35 (Standard Club)
About: Join Walking/Running in the Morning with Mrs. Chala and develop healthy fitness habits through running or walking. We will learn movement techniques while raising our heart rates. You can earn fun tokens for each mile that you run during the club time. Start out the morning right with a bit of exercise!

THURSDAY AFTERNOON
AFTER SCHOOL DANCE PARTY (Grades K-3)
When: 1/23 – 3/20  |  Thursdays until 4:45pm  |  9 sessions
Instructor: Tara Reiter (Instructor at Unique Technique Dance)
Where: Skyline Gym
Cost: $80 (Premium Club)
About: After School Dance Party is a fun and creative movement class that incorporates a wide range of dance styles while listening to varying genres of music. We will skip, jump, play games and make fun dances! Students will be encouraged to step outside their box by bringing their own individual style, personality, and choreography to their movements. Together we will create a dance that is to be performed on the last day of class for parents.

CERAMICS CLUB: Multiple Projects (Grades 1-5)
When: 1/23 – 3/20  |  Thursdays until 4:45pm  |  9 sessions
Instructors: Jesse Hughs (owner of Uncle Jesse’s Pottery) & Lindsey Parker
Where: Red Solarium
Cost: $80 (Premium Club)
About: This hands-on course is another opportunity for Ceramics with Uncle Jesse’s Pottery! Students will create at least two pieces of their choosing – bowls and a creature. They will learn the properties of clay and the process of creating their own pieces. All under the expert guidance of local artist Jesse Hughs, whose pottery shop can be found in downtown Ferndale.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON
CHEER CLUB (Grades 1-5)

When: 1/10 – 3/28  |  Fridays until 4:45pm
  |  10 sessions (no club on 1/24 or 1/31)
Instructors: Geneyem Barrett and her FHS cheerleader daughters
Where: Skyline Gym
Cost: $30 (Standard Club)
About: Cheer is more than chants or cheering. Learn about being a healthy athlete, teamwork, and trusting yourself and one another. We will learn basketball and football cheers along with some simple stunts. This will be led by two high school cheerleaders from FHS and assisted by Geneyem.

CLUB DE ESPAÑOL (SPANISH CLUB) (1o a 5o grado)
Cuando:
 1/10 – 3/28  |  Los Viernes hasta las 4:45 pm  |  11 sesiones (no hay club 1/31)
Maestra: Blanca McCreary
Donde: La biblioteca de Skyline
Cuesta: $40 (Standard Club)
Sobre: Blanca los invita a jugar, reir, ¡y aprender! Únete a nosotras mientras apreciamos la cultura y el idioma latinoamericano. Aprenderemos el idioma y descubriremos tradiciones del sur. Jugaremos, contaremos cuentos, y, lo más importante, ¡nos divertiremos!
¡Nos encantaría verte ahí!  El club se ofrecerá en español, ¡pero todos son bienvenidos!
About: Blanca invites you to play, laugh, and learn! Join us while we appreciate Latin American culture and language. We will learn the language and discover traditions from the South. We will play, tell stories, and most important, we will have fun! We would love to see you there! The club is being offered in Spanish, but everyone is welcome!

We are on the lookout for volunteers for some clubs this Winter. Think about whether you are able to volunteer for a club that your child signs up for. It can be a lot of fun and really helps make the clubs run more smoothly.
